What is a liquidated claim? +
A liquidated claim is a stated money amount (for example an unpaid invoice). Filing fees come from the Second Schedule based on that amount, with a minimum of Ksh 2,000 and a maximum of Ksh 71,000. Use the figure on your plaint, not hoped-for general damages.
What if my claim is unliquidated? +
Unliquidated claims (for example general damages not yet quantified) are typically filed at a flat Ksh 2,000. Further court fees are then assessed on the amount the court awards, using the same Second Schedule.
Can I pay nothing? +
Some filings are NIL under this schedule — including children matters, applications to sue as a pauper, Kafala (guardianship) in the Kadhi’s Court, and some consents or file reconstructions. Use the shortcuts at the top of the calculator, then confirm at the registry.
Does the fee cover every document? +
Most fees are bundles: one amount covers a set of related papers. Extra annexures over the first 100 pages or 25 MB, and process service, are added separately if you need them today.
